His flight from visibility fails almost immediately when aggressive admirers track him to his new destination. In a frantic bid to elude them, Lexington collides with a farm truck driven by Stevie St. James, damaging her vehicle and ruining her clothes. The chaotic encounter leaves Stevie's hair tangled in Lex's zipper, creating mutual friction right when she is rushing to Maple Academy for an essential stage audition.

Stevie reaches the school auditorium determined to secure the part of Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice to keep a sacred pledge to her late grandmother.
